Merry Christmas!

merry christmas 2013 - Merry Christmas 2013 HD Wallpaper

Merry Christmas everyone and thank you for following us through our first full year of business.  Jackie and I (Kim) are both thankful to our family and friends who have supported us by putting the word out there about t-shirt quilts.  We are looking forward to a busy 2014 and if you want to have a quilt made, you know who to call.

Both of us have been busy making gifts for our family for the holidays and we can shared them now.

Jackie made aprons for her family's annual candy/cooking baking day.  The candy and cookies are amazing as always.

I (Kim) made Quick Zip Bags and a pillow case for my sister, Robbie.  I ended up using the bags to put their gifts inside and I think they were very pleased.  Yes, those are hippos on the pillow case. One of Robbie's favorite Christmas song is, "All I want for Christmas is a Hippopotamus".  So one year I adopted a hippo at the St. Louis Zoo for her and since I give her a hippo each year.  So, sweet dreams...

Happy Holidays to you and yours.  Merry Christmas!

Time to take a deep breathe.

Well, we finished our last two orders in time for Christmas gift giving.  The first one or should I say second one.  We made two quilts for the Raugh's and here it is.

Raugh Quilt #2
This quilt was made and then remade, or a better way to say it, we cut and pasted new fabric where another style of fabric was used.  Every where you see the plaid fabric was replaced.  But it makes a better memory quilt.  Both of the Raugh quilts were made using t-shirts from a father who passed away.  The plaid fabric is one of his oxford style shirts, which will be an upcoming quilt in the new year.  As you can tell this quilt is not laying flat due to the flannel backing.  It does make the quilt cuddle since it is going to a daughter with two small children.  Can we still say we don't like working with flannel, but we try again and again.

The other quilt which was delivered Tuesday to the Rowand's as a family Christmas present.

Rowand Quilt
This was a quick quilt for us to make.  Jackie designed the layout and it sewed together like butter.  The binding technique is a favorite of mine, faux piped binding.  You can find everything on the internet can't you, even stuff you didn't think you would want to know.  I used a tutorial on TLC Stitches by Trisha, which has great information and pictures of the technique.  If you have tried to do a piped binding try this one, you will be amazed how easy it is.  Another tried and true way is to use Susan Cleveland's, "Piping Hot Binding" book and ruler.

Back to the Rowand quilt, remember Jackie delivered it Tuesday night and it was a Christmas present.  Well, Mrs. Rowand got home with the quilt and gave it to her family right then and there.  She couldn't wait to share it with her family and they loved it.  The picture of them is on our face book page and we would love for you to LIKE us.  The best ending of a quilt story.

Also, something new this week for us, we are now on Instagram.  So it's another way to keep up with us.  Now that we have finished with our customer orders for 2013 we are gearing up for 2014 and having some fun working on person projects.  So stayed tuned for those pictures.  Happy Friday to all of you!

Featherweight sewing machine, just the best thing to have.

This is my (Kim) Singer Featherweight sewing machine, it was one of 30,000 that was manufactured on October 28, 1947.  I purchased it a few years ago at a local church thrift store, I was lucky that my friend found it and called me about it.  This past summer it was finally serviced, it needed a new belt and there was a mess of thread inside of the machine.  Today is the first day I have used it making pillow cases.  Let's just say it has a beautiful stitch.  The only problem I have is making sure to put the presser foot down, my other machine automatically goes down.  But, my Featherweight is quieter than my other machine.  Late night sewing might be in the future.

JK Quilt Campers were asked to make pillow cases for a local nursing home Alzheimer's unit.  As you know Jackie completed hers last month.  Here are mine, which are due tomorrow.  Hopefully they will bright the rooms for our new friends.  Special thanks to our friends who helped us make these, unsure of how many have been made, but will let you know.  We hope to have 30, one for everyone.

Tonight we are both picking up a quilt from the long arm quilters and I can't wait to show you the final results.  Check back soon.

Raugh Quilt #1

The first of three quilts for the Raughs is now completed in time for Christmas.  Yes, that is migrating flying geese in the borders and was very easy to make.  Jackie found the link on the internet and the rest is history.  The fabric is white with tiny black elephants printed all over it - adorable.  There is a lettermans sweater in this quilt along with the buttons.  Let's hope this makes a very Merry Christmas present and keeps the memory of a loving Father for a daughter.

Raugh Quilt #1
Our friend, Kathy of Kathy's Kreations quilted this quilt for us using a pattern called, "Fairy Wings".  Don't you love it?
